Former WEC middleweight champ Paulo Filho took on UFC and PRIDE veteran Denis Kang at Impact FC
Former WEC middleweight champ Paulo Filho took on UFC and PRIDE veteran Denis Kang at Impact FC in Australia. Notoriously eccentric Filho entered last Saturday's matchup at 20-1 overall, that said, Kang gave him all he could handle and then some. Denis Kang and Paulo Filho were originally set to meet in November 2006 in the finals of Pride's 183-pound grand prix. Nearly four years later in Sydney, the two standout middleweights battled to a highly contentious split draw.
"I feel like I won at least two rounds. I’ll even give up one round but there’s no way,” Kang explained from his hotel room in Sydney Sunday night. “I think I won two rounds. I don’t agree with the judge who gave me all three. If you went by PRIDE rules – by damage and by who was trying to finish the fight, I would have won for sure."
What’s frustrating Kang says is that they were told by referee Big John McCarthy prior to the show that he would be officiating the bout based on similar criteria to that used in PRIDE.
"I know he isn’t a judge, but Big John met with some of us before the fights for a rules meeting– he only reffed three or four of our fights – and he said, ‘Look guys, tonight it’s all about damage.’ I asked, ‘What about improving position and advancing?’ and he said ‘I don’t care about that. If you’re just advancing your position and not doing anything, I’m standing you up. I want to see damage and aggression,’" Kang explains. "I wish the judges had have seen it that way as well."
According to the PRIDE and UFC veteran, the promotion has expressed a strong interest, given the somewhat questionable outcome of the bout, in an immediate September rematch in Brazil and although he would love a chance at redemption, since the fight left a bitter taste in his mouth, he says he likely won’t fight Filho in his own backyard.
"They want to do a rematch September 25 in Rio. I’m not doing it in Rio; we’ll do it some place neutral. I’ll do a rematch, just not in Brazil. They still want me on the card, though," he says. "They mentioned either [Murilo] Ninja [Rua] or [Jesse] JT [Taylor] as possible opponents, but we’ll see what happens."
As our personal BJJ Instructor for the Instructor Team at MMAFA, we are all proud of you, and yes you did win at least two out of three rounds. Redemption is coming coach! Very Soon! Go DK!
Before I went to UFC 116 in Vegas, a gentleman called me wondering if I could chat about the Ottawa MMA scene. I told him it would be my pleasure. Well last night, Al Morrison from fightersedge.ca came in to check the place out. Now I had told him over the phone, that if he truely wanted to get a great experience is to come in and train. I was glad he took me on my offer. Here is his report from fightersedge.ca website:
"Located in the quiet rural area of March road in Kanata, Ontario and spanning two floors ( a ground floor and a basement), the Mixed Martial Arts & Fitness Academy (MMAFA) welcomed me in to review their facility. I was taken on a tour by head instructor and owner, Stephane D’Amour.
Stephane has been involved in martial arts for over 20 years and has been running his two MMAFA gyms for 9 years. MMAFA is the only MMA gym in Canada that is directly associated with the American Top Team (ATT) and The Pit gyms.
Stephane has been instructed by such greats as MMA veteran fighter & champion Denis Kang for BJJ, Ricardo Liborio who is the head coach of ATT, Stephane Diaz (ATT) for conditioning and John Hackleman from The Pit. Stephane is a certified ATT conditioning coach.
Upon entering the tidy entranceway, you are introduced to the matted main sparring area. The atmosphere is immediately welcoming; from the students and teachers to the warm, wood panelled décor.
While the ground floor is for sparring and drills, the basement contains a cage wall with heavy bags that can be used for striking drills or moved down the railing to allow for partnered drills against the cage.
The equipment in the gym is all professional grade; from the ground n pound dummies and heavy bags in the basement to the plethora of kick pads and focus mitts upstairs. Most major brands can be purchased at the MMAFA store.
Decorating the walls of the upper floor are MMA shorts with Brazilian Jiu-jitsu belts in ascending order of colours, respective of rank. Stephane explained that they are a no-gi grappling gym, but they follow the BJJ system and displaying their ranks in a similar fashion to UFC fighter BJ Penn’s shorts, keeps the MMA attire practical while still displaying each students BJJ rank.
On average, classes have 20 to 25 students taking part. I was privileged to take part in a smaller class to get a first hand experience of what it’s like to train at MMAFA. This began with some footwork drills to warm up, following the lead of one training partner by first keeping parallel to them and then working on keeping a safe distance.
Assistant instructor and programme director Craig Vermette, who is also a certified ATT conditioning coach, put me through my paces in an introduction to Cage Fitness; a system developed by UFC hall of fame inductee Matt Hughes. This system involves five x 5 minute rounds of training using a ground n pound dummie (a heavy bag, shaped to help in striking from the mount drills). I can attest that this a great workout.
I went back upstairs to take part in some striking and covering drills, then we moved to pummelling and a clinch takedown before practising single to double leg takedowns. I always look for aliveness in training and MMAFA gives it to you in spades. Wrestling with each partner began from a standing stance with takedowns earning a win and resetting the fight until the timer ran out and partners were switched.
The lesson concluded with a progressive sparring session that started with boxing and went all the way to kickboxing with takedowns and submissions.
The whole experience was very impressive, Stephane was very involved with all the students and was constantly showing the why and the when of each technique.
The style of the gym and it’s training methods is to blend all the elements of MMA into a solid cohesive whole. Stephane explains that the aim is too show the transitions from standing to takedowns to ground fighting rather than teaching them as separate elements.
The sparring is realistic with no headgear to get the student used to covering up and getting hit so they will not find it a shock when they get in the ring for the first time. From conditioning to technical skills and sparring, everything an MMA fighter needs to succeed is taught in a continual flow.
Stephane explained that the health of a fighter making weight is very important; he uses a program of 8 to 10 weeks of training along with a controlled diet to make sure the fighter is at the desired weight and fighting fit.
Fighter’s Edge would like to thank Stephane and Craig for their time and everyone at the gym for a great session."
A special thank you for Al at www.fightersedge.ca , you are always welcome in our schools.
Hi everyone, the last few months, both schools have been adding ALOT of equipment. In Kanata, we've added 1 TON of Steel, Cage and 12 Muay Thai Bags. We have also added over 350 lbs of weights, Kettlebells, Performance equipment, etc...
In Arnprior, we've added 1800 lbs of Heavy Bags, and another over 350 lbs of Weights, Threadmills and Exercise Bikes, etc...
We firmly believe that having the best equipment available for our students is priority #1. This way, there is a sense of pride among the students. They know that their coaches are always willing to seek out the best for them.
I also wanted to thank my Assistants, Students and their families, because without them, this would not be possible. You are my family and you hold something special in my heart.
Steph.
PS: Please check out the photo section, we've added new ones! Enjoy.
MMAFA Instructors completes their weapons certifications
Recently, the instructors at MMAFA had the pleasure to train and finish their Kali Certification with Guro Grant Richardson. Here is a brief bio on Grant:

Grant has been training in the JKD/Kali system for over 21 years.
The MMAFA Instructor are very happy to have Grant as a weapons mentor / instructor, he will bring an expertise that will truly make the weapons programs grow for the years to come.
One of the things I enjoy the most is helping my community in any way I possibly can. If I cannot donate my time, then I am glad to participate in fundraisers, events or any other idea that comes up for the greater good of the community.
We have a school across the street from our Kanata Location, called St-Isidore Catholic School. For almost 10 years we've had a partnership in education. We hold Anti-Bully Chats, Stanger Dangers, etc...
Recently we did a Mat Chat on Fitness and I notice that the Grappling Mats at the gym needed upgrading. So I was my pleasure to donate about $1000 worth of grappling mats to the school.
The school staff was very happy and so was I. Enjoy!
MMAFA Instructors at a Local School Chat on Anti-Bully
There is always something genuine about children and enthusiasm. So it is always fun times when I have the opportunity to teach at local schools about different topics such as: Anti-Bully, Goal Setting for Better Grades, Fitness, etc...
Being raised by a single mother in a rough neighborhood, martial arts have given the direction and focus I need in life. So it is always exciting to see how the kids react when they have achievements through the martial arts. Today, we taught an Anti-Bully Class at St-Isidore Elementary, the kids loved it! Congrats to Brice for breaking his board!
Recently while at ATT HQ, I had the pleasure to get to know a little bit more, Thiago "PITBULL" Alves. He is a nice guy, but theses days, very driven to get back into the cage, since going under the knife for an abnormality on the left side of his brain, and waiting to be cleared by the doctors to fight again. I am very happy he has been cleared to fight again. As per Thiago said in the article on 5thround.com:
"I’ll Be Back and I’m Gonna Kick a Lot of Ass for you Guys”
Awesome!
Here is a picture of the MMAFA Instructors & PITBULL after a wrestling sessions with UFC Ultimate Fighter TV Series Participant, Charles Blanchard and Coaches.
Early this afternoon, Stephane D'Amour, Owner of MMAFA, was interviewed by Glenn Kulka on Team 1200 Sports Radio. D'Amour really enjoyed the interviewed and Kulka, mentionned that he has a "Face for Radio". I don't really know what that means, but overall the interview was a success. Topics was about ATT, The Pit, local MMA Scene, D'Amour's martial arts background,etc...
Here is a brief explaination of the show:
This new 1 hour show will follow Glenn's passion for MMA, the fastest growing spectator sport in the world.
Glenn will be joined by current and former MMA stars, he'll preview upcoming PPVs and a look at the local fight scene all while taking calls and emails.

The promoter and other coaches were very pleased with the quality and professionalism of our team. They want us back for the next event. Congrats to the team, our students and family and friends that has made this possible.
Hi everyone, if you did not know, Mixed Martial Arts and Fitness Academy is on Facebook. I just added the photos from our Denis Kang Seminar, check it out! If you haven't added us to your facebook, go for it. Keep yourself up to date on MMAFA with Facebook!
Last night as my kids entered my club from their weekly classes, I noticed one of my students had cut his hair. Now I almost always notice any haircuts on people I see every week, but this way different. Because this student has long hair, and he really liked his hair. So when I asked him why he did it, and his mom explained I was truely impressed by his act of kindness.
I also found out that his mom, posted a blog on her website of this incredible little boy. See here is the full blog and link:
This post is in support of my cousin L who is as courageous as she is kind. We love you.
This is my little man. He is one of the most selfless, kind, caring, gentle kids I know and he inspires me everyday to be better.
Back in 2008 I went to Jamaica and met two boys who had the longest hair , they were donating it. I came back and told my kids about it and my oldest munchkin, who had just turned 7 at the time, asked if he could do that too. I explained to him that it would take a long time (years), how he would have to take care of it and that if at any point he wanted to stop he could.
Throughout it all he was amazing. He put up with being teased and called a girl by many kids. Adults confused him almost daily for being a girl. He just shrugged and laughed. Every once in awhile I would ask him if he was sure he wanted to keep going & every time he answered with an unwavering yes.
This past winter our family received devastating news when my cousin L was diagnosed with colon cancer. When she was about to start chemotherapy, I sat down with my children to talk about what was happening and what might happen while she was going through her treatment. As they see her quite frequently I explained that she might lose her hair and knowing that munchkin 1 was donating his hair gave munchkin 2 & 3 something to associate it with and helped them all deal with the news.
My little man knows that his donation will go to a child who is going through a similar fight and give them the opportunity to be able to feel more confident and concentrate on winning their courageous battle with this terrible disease. For all of us, his donation that started out as a kind selfless act, turned into something so close to our hearts and the pride I feel is immeasurable.
So here we are, a little over a year and a half later on his journey. He is 8 and a half and he has 14.5'of long blond hair that is ready to be cut and donated.
Today, we packaged up his hair and mailed it to Angel Hair for Kids a signature program of “A Child’s Voice Foundation”. They are a national not for profit organization dedicated to creating and managing programs that support and enhance the physical and emotional well being of financially disadvantaged children in Canada who are facing an illness or disability. If you or someone you know has hair that is 10? or longer and would like to help a child, please click on the link above.
Starting this weekend, Glenn Kulka will be starting his MMA show on TEAM 1200 called Fight Time with Glenn Kulka between 1PM and 2PM. One of his very first live guests, we'll be Denis Kang! This is an exciting weekend for everyone involved with MMAFA! See you at the Denis Kang Seminar at 3PM
Recently, the UFC Primetime show was at the PIT HQ, interviewing Chuck Liddell for their show and his upcoming fight with Rich Franklin at UFC 115 in Vancouver, BC!
"Our Canadian fans are among the most loyal and enthusiastic in the world, and we are thrilled to bring the UFC to Vancouver," said Dana White, UFC President. "We want to thank Mayor Gregor Robertson and our partners at Canucks Sports and Entertainment for helping to make UFC 115 become the first UFC event in British Columbia.”
I know that Chuck will put on a great fight with knockout power! Go PIT!
Hi everyone, I am so proud to have my BJJ coach, Denis Kang, come in and teach a 3hrs seminar next Saturday at 3PM at the Kanata Location . He motivates me and my assistants and he truly cares and pays attention to detail. If you are looking to gain some in depth knowledge of the MMA world, this is a seminar not to be missed! At MMAFA, we have a successful kid’s martial arts program. The children and their families truly enjoy seeing the developments that martial arts bring them. At MMAFA, our children curriculum is based on characteristics such as respect, patience, confidence, self-control, etc... We developed theses in class with lessons in Kickboxing, Wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu and Anti-Bully tactics. He is a picture of a proud mom, who was willing to share her love for photography and her kids in the martial arts.
MMAFA Owner teaching at ATT Affiliate School in Jackson, NJ
Arriving in Newark, NJ for the UFC 111, I was looking forward to meeting up with my ATT brother and friend, Eric Alders. Eric and I have very similiar past and I think we really understand what martial arts should be about. I really enjoyed teaching at his school last night. Thanks again Eric and to your team for welcoming me and making it feel like home.
Leaving this morning for New Jersey for the UFC 111, teaching MMA tonight at a ATT Affiliate School for my friend Eric, looking forward to be with the Jersey boys again. Training at TRI-STAR with UFC Film Production there for GSP
Had an awesome training session with Denis Kang at Tri-Star. It was cool, cause the UFC camera crew came in and was setting up to film GSP training with the pro fighters. Awesome time like allways, thanks Denis! I will be going to Newark, NJ to show my support for our ATT fighters and GSP at UFC 111. Libo has all the New York, New Jersey coaches and me getting together and spending a weekend training with the pro fighter before UFC 111. I love my life! Special good job to Karl and Shane, they are training hard with Denis and picking it up quickly. Good job guys! I am proud of you.

Hi Everyone, because of the continued growth and interest in our Adult Programs, starting March 15th, 2010, we will be adding an adult/teen class at 6:30PM to 7:30PM on Tuesday and Thursdays. At the end of the class, if you are interested in taking your overall conditioning to the next level, you can add the Cage Fitness Class to your existing program. That means, instead of doing your regular conditioning at the end of the class, you will do the Cage Fitness instead! That's a total of 1 1/2 hour of training. Awesome Stuff! For more information on adding the Cage Fitness to your existing program, or just doing Cage Fitness on its own, please call the Kanata Location at 613-863-7115. See you and class!
American Top Team Locations Update, MMAFA is a LEVEL 2 MMA School
Hi everyone, I have recently been tested for my Level 2 MMA ATT Instructorship with American Top Team. I am very proud of this accomplishment, being part of the ATT & PIT family is something special and motivating for me! So I felt really proud when today I went to the ATT home page and checked out the location page, finding out that they have updated their location page ( http://www.americantopteam.com/locations.php ), showing MMAFA as a Level 2 School. I am alway looking to improve and train for my students constant improvements!
Since becoming an ATT & PIT Certified MMA Instructor, I've had an opportunity of meeting great coaches and MMA Fighters. But what some people don't know is that some of the high levels MMA Fighters are also great teachers. This is so true with Denis Kang. The first time I meet Denis, I felt that he was very down to earth and approachable guy. But when he did a seminar at the MMAFA Kanata Club in the fall '09. I was truly impressed with his teaching skills. I was very happy that Denis became our local BJJ Coach. With the vast experience that Denis and Master Liborio at ATT HQ have, I am very excited for the MMAFA Students. We will be training with Denis on a monthly basis and always reaching for the top!
Fighting in Canada for the first time, Yves Edwards from ATT HQ faced off against UFC veteran Derrick Noble at the Maximum Fighting Championship’s MFC 24: Heat XC on Friday night.
Yves landed a flurry of punches that dropped Noble and continued with his onslaught until the ref stopped the bout at 4:41 of round one. Yves winner by TKO (strikes).
A solid win for Yves over a dangerous vet in Derrick Noble. This win certainly will start off 2010 in the right direction for Yves, as he looks to climb back to the top of the lightweight rankings and challenge the divisons best.
When I go to ATT HQ, I always pay close attention to the fighters who are southpaws like myself. Tibau is one of my favorites. He's extremely nice and sharp in his stand up. Here is a brief bio on Cleison:
Mixed martial arts
He was brought up as a fighter in Kimura team, from the northern part of Brazil. Today Tibau trains at American Top Team. Gleison's biggest strengths are his wrestling and his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Ultimate Fighting Championships
Originally a welterweight, Tibau made his UFC debut against a strong Nick Diaz. Tibau started strong and was taking Nick Diaz down efficiently using his Jiu-Jitsu. In the second round he tired and lost by TKO due to strikes.
After the fight, Tibau took on Jason Dent at UFC 68. Tibau dominated the fight and won by decision. He then took a one fight hiatus from the company and returned defeating Jeff Cox. Tibau then took on undefeated British favorite Terry Etim, Tibau won the fight by decision.
Tibau then had back to back losses to Tyson Griffin at UFC 81 and then to Joe Stevenson at UFC 86. He then scored back to back wins over Rich Clementi and Jeremy Stephens.
At the TUF 9 Finale, Tibau fought Melvin Guillard. The fight ended with Tibau losing by split decision. The fight was very controversial as many thought Tibau won the fight.
Tibau's next fight was set to be against former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk at UFC 104. Sherk pulled out of the fight and would be replaced by Josh Neer.Tibau defeated Neer landing a total of 10 takedowns during the fight.
Tibau is expected to face Caol Uno on March 31, 2010 at UFC Fight Night 21
Hector Lombard is someone I met for the first time I went to ATT HQ. I was asking around, guys, who is this guy? He looks like a Mack Truck and hits like one also. Training and conditioning, he is intense and focus. But once you meet him he is one of the most classy guys I know. Keep your eyes on this man, everyone, you will be hearing alot about him in the near future. He are some of his stats and training history:
Hector Lombard is a former Olympic Judo competitor originally from Cuba who is now an Australian citizen but currently resides in America. Hector is currently training at American Top Team in Florida.
PRIDE
In 2006, Lombard fought twice in Pride Fighting Championship, losing two unanimous decisions to Akihiro Gono and Gegard Mousasi.
Cage Fighting Championship
Hector headlined the first Cage Fighting Championship show on 28 July 2007, where he fought top Australian fighter Kyle Noke. The result was a controversial draw. On the 23rd of November 2007, Lombard defeated French kickboxer and actor Jean-François Lénogue to be the CFC Middleweight Champion. He has since defended his title 5 times. His last title defence was against Kalib Starnes.
EliteXC
On 18th of April, 2008, EliteXC released a press statement citing the signing of Hector Lombard. His first opponent was scheduled to be Scott Smith in November, but the fight was later canceled after the collapse of the promotion.
Bellator Fighting Championships
On January 6, 2009, it was announced that Hector Lombard signed an exclusive agreement with Bellator Fighting Championships.
He fought and defeated Virgil Lozano and Damien Stelly to make it to the finals and fight for the first Bellator middleweight championship belt. Hector defeated Jared Hess via doctor stoppage in the fourth round to win the middleweight title. Hector will defend his belt against the winner of the second season middleweight tournament.
Lombard has recently stated he wants to fight Dan Henderson in the Strikeforce.
Good afternoon everyone, while I was at ATT HQ I had the pleasure to meet a young and upcoming photographer, who in the MMA World is very well known and respected among the Fighters and MMA Camps. Here are some quotes from people who truely enjoy his work:
"In my opinion, Eric Coleman has the best pics in MMA i've seen." - Evan Shoman / Shomanart.com
"Eric's photography is simple and priceless. He can personify very different types of entertainers truthfully and holistically." - Antonella Barba
He has become a good friend, and he is looking forward to coming to Canada and meeting everyone at MMAFA!
MMAFA OWNERS Trains and Learns from UFC VETERAN COLE MILLER at ATT HQ
During my Level 2 certification at ATT HQ, I always have an opportunity to train with some of the top coaches and UFC VETERANS in the world! This time, I had an opportunity to train and learn from Cole Miller. Cole is a very outgoing young man who is the WKA MMA Lightweight Champion and has a BJJ Brown Belt under Richardo Liborio.
Cole Miller was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 5 show, featuring lightweights. He was a member of Jens Pulver's Team. Cole won his preliminary fight on the show against Alan Berube by Triangle Choke in the first round. Cole than fought against Joe Lauzon in the quarter-finals of the competition. After a competitive first round, the two fighters engaged quickly in the second, with Cole Miller looking for submissions off his back. Lauzon than landed and illegal elbow to back of Millers head. After taking the recovery time, Miller signaled that he was okay, and the fight resumed. Lauzon immediately took Miller down and starting landing clean shots. Miller covered up and refused to improve his position, prompting the ref to stop the fight. After the fight, both Dana White and Lauzon were unhappy with the outcome of the fight, stating that the illegal blow was what caused Miller to stop attacking and cover up.
Cole Miller made his official UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale, defeating Andy Wang via TKO at 1:10 of the 1st round.

Hi Everyone, just want to mention that it's always incredible being able to part of an organization like ATT. Being the first and only ATT/PIT MMA Coach in Canada, I have always taken great pride in my training and teaching for my students. Being able to learn from Master Liborio is an experience in itself, but being a certified Level 2 ATT/MMA Instructor, is just awesome!
This past weekend in Oklahoma, Carmelo Marrero from ATT HQ, submitted Wayne Cole with a guillotine choke midway through the second round. Nice win for 'Melo.
Since the first day, I was at the Pit in California, I knew I was at a special place, being coached by an exceptional instructor, John Hackleman, the Pit Master. When we did the morning training that included the PIT Sledge. I knew this was something I wanted my students to try in the nice warm winter weather of Canada. LOL. So voila!
In the main event of the night, Hector Lombard won a unanimous decision over a very game Joey Gorcznski. Hector dominated all three rounds on his way to victory. Hector landed some big shots early on that almost saw him end the fight, but the Oklahoma fighter hung tough throughout the bout. Hector has now won 12 straight bouts!
Jorge Masvidal lost a lackluster decision to Luis Palomino. Jorge scored a takedown in the third round where he started to land some shots from half guard but it was a little too late to turn the judges.
In pre-lim action, Jahmal Mclennan fought hard but lost by TKO in the third round, and Chris Silva won via unanimous decision
2010-02-03 WEC confirmed to the Associate Press today that Mike Thomas Brown, from ATT HQ, will be taking on Manny Gamburyan at WEC 48 in Sacramento, California. This will be the first time the WEC will be available on PPV! Tickets go on sale this Saturday!
The former featherweight champ is coming off a quick first round submission win over Anthony Morrison. Mike will now set his sights on Manny Gamburyan, who is riding a 2 fight win streak in the WEC's featherweight division.
With "The Ultimate Fighter 11" now in production, head coach Tito Ortiz today confirmed his assistant coaches: WEC fighter Rob McCullough; Veteran trainer and "TUF 3" assistant coach Saul Soliz; and Brazilian jiu-jitsu/judo black belt Cleber Luciano.
In addition to the coaches, Ortiz said he is reserving a spot on his staff for another type of coach: a public-relations specialist.
Chuck Liddell too has put together his coaching squad for the upcoming 11th season of "The Ultimate Fighter." MMAjunkie.com today confirmed at the "TUF 11" media day that his coaches include: longtime trainer John Hackleman; former Olympic gold medalist boxer Howard Davis Jr.; jiu-jitsu ace Scott Epstein; and Strikeforce champ Jake Shields.
MMAjunkie.com identified most of Liddell's "TUF 11" coaches in a report earlier this month. Olympic wrestling silver medalist Sammy Henson and rubber-guard guru Eddie Bravo were also candidates for the coaching squad.
Liddell told MMAjunkie.com that he specifically asked UFC president Dana White about Shields, and the UFC boss said he has no problem with the fighter appearing on "TUF." Shields, of course, will use his time on the show to teach Team Liddell while also preparing for an April bout with recent UFC divorcee Dan Henderson

I am very excited to announce that the Cage Fitness Classes will be starting in Kanata on Monday January 18th, 2010 at 5:45PM. Everyone is invited to attend a the full week for FREE! Come in and try out this new and exciting approach to fitness.
NO there is no contact in cage fitness or working with any partners. Cage Fitness is a fitness program designed for individuals to work at their own pace. The exercises are safe for women and men.
Is Cage Fitness Martial Arts?
NO. Cage Fitness is based on the training methods used by MMA athletes. We have found that MMA Athletes are in incredible shape so we modified some of the training techniques that is used by those athletes and created this fitness program. We wanted to get people into the best shape they possibly can without having to train in MMA. This makes cage fitness not only one of the best workouts you can get but also challenging and fun.
I have never worked out before….is Cage Fitness for me?
Yes. Unlike an aerobic class or other fitness classes where an instructor is leading a group of people through various exercises at a certain pace, cage fitness allows everyone to go at their own pace. Cage Fitness is broken up into 5 – 5 minute rounds that are made up of timed segments within those rounds. An individual can compete with themselves to see how many repetitions of each exercise you can do within those timed segments.
How long are the classes?
Cage Fitness was designed to get maximum results in a short amount of time. The class is 30 minutes which consists of 5 – 5 minute rounds with a minute rest in between. This is the same format used in a championship MMA match. This allows someone to get a great workout in without taking up much time out of ones day.
